Hi there, and thanks for dropping by. We're Ashley & Emma, a British couple embarking on a Road trip through the USA and Canada. 

We enjoy listening to music, reading and travelling. The latter has been a large part of our world in the last 5yrs or so (see blog..). We are both RYA Yachtmaster Captains, Professional Ski & Snowboard Instructors. Emma is a professional Dive Master & DSD instructor, and Ashley is a qualified chef. We have spent the last few years in the charter industry aboard varying size of catamarans and also as resort managers in France, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.

We have known each other since the mid '80's when we were teens, and as life happens to have it's own plan we went our separate ways.

Ashley

I spent the 1990's in the H.M. Royal Marines. the latter years I qualified as a professional chef, serving around the world in a number of environments from Jordan, Oman, Egypt and France. On board ship and on land.
As a chef in the Royal Marines i was selected as part of a team to enter Olympia 2000 - an international competition held every other year at Earls Court, London. We were awarded the silver medal, Salon Culinaire de Cuisine

From 2001 I ran my hotel on the east coast of the UK and during that time volunteered as a member of crew with the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute). After a number of years I was made Senior Helmsman on the inshore rescue boat and Search & Rescue Navigator on the Offshore All Weather Lifeboat.

2006-9 I was an Emergency Foster Carer for the local authority, taking in children from new born to 17yrs. It was a time that allowed me to see with my own eyes, and experience the full unabated spectrum of human emotion and ultimately give something back to the community.

2010-12 I decided that I still had some spare time on my hands so bought a Coffee Shop, yes, I was running a hotel, a coffee shop, volunteering on the life boat and an Emergancy Foster Carer. I like to be busy. 

2012 I left all of this behind and embarked on a new path. With Emma... A Blank Wall and a Blank Page.... 

Emma

Hi there, I'm Emma and thanks for visiting OuRVCalledHarvey website and Blog.

Yes we knew each other in the 1980's, and boy was it different times. I owe a lot of who I am, to my loving parents. For that I will be eternally grateful.

I was always watching my dad working, he was an engineer and that undoubtedly rubbed off on me. When I left school I studied Electrical Engineering at college and then joined an engineering company where I worked on prototype projects which included the logic box on the London Underground trains (it controls the braking system, lights and doors etc). 

From there an opportunity came up to be able to work with my Father at the family business. So I joined the company and took over running the office, book keeping and payroll. It was a change but having the opportunity to work with my father, my idol, my hero, was amazing. I was never to sure what I wanted to do with my life so this was a good experience, while deciding what and where I wanted to go. I always knew that I wanted to go somewhere, just not sure what path to take.   

I applied for a job at an Airline based near London Gatwick where I trained and worked as an Airline Planning and Slot Coordinator Executive. This was intensely rewarding, I had found a career that I truly enjoyed, the hours were long but when you enjoy what you are doing, it didn't matter. 

From 2004 I decided that I needed a new challenge and started working at an Engineering Academy as the Head of Year for Year 10 (14-15yr old students) over my time there I worked my way up to become the Head of all five year groups (11-16yr old students). This was a demanding and challenging role, due to the Academy being located in a deprived area and I was also the Head of Attendance, Student Behaviour and De-escalation. Around 800-1000 students, depending on the intakes for that year.

2012 I embarked on our new life together, involving new challenges and everything we love....
